Analysis of fish diseases (environmental, nutritional, genetic, contagious or indefinable causes). Systematic pathology (integumental, locomotory, respiratory, digestive, circulatory, neural etc.). Examination methodology (history taking, clinical signs, biopsy/necropsy, post-mortem anatomy). Methodology for sample taking and packaging-sending. Course Content
A brief look at breeding animals, birds and fish. The main breeding species in Greece (growth rates, mortality, pathological factors and environmental restrictions on farming). Stables / cells / cages, bird cages, tanks / fish cages: Selection criteria for the establishment of the livestock – poultry – fish farm, breeding water quality criteria, special equipment for breeding units. Management of farmed populations: population loading of livestock, livestock – poultry – fish handling (diet, age / body size screenings, mortality / loss records), slaughter – fishing. Design a specific farming plan in relation to farming restrictions. Use – Proper application of prescription anesthetic and therapeutic preparations to animals – birds – fish of all ages. Selection of vaccines and good practice in vaccination of animals – birds. Vaccination by injection (intramuscular and / or subcutaneous and / or intraperitoneal), food, drinking water, immersion (juvenile bath). Design and methods of preparing rations as well as factors influencing the production of rations. Composition of rations for dairy – meat production cattle. Composition of rations for dairy – meat production goat and sheep. Composition of rations for swine. Composition of rations for horse, dog, cat, rabbit. Composition of rations for bird. Composition of rations for fish. Special Issues: (i) Feeding of Animal – Bird – Fish genitors. (ii) Food supplements – Balancers. (iii) Pharmaceutical rations and relevant national and European legislation on their use, (iv) Nutrition of larvae and early young fishes and basic principles of the production of live feed (phyto-zooplankton). Stages and industrial equipment for the production of animal – bird – fish feed (pelletization, extrusion, compaction).
