The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture was founded in May 2019 according to par. 3 of article 36 of Law 4610/2019, (Government GazetteΝο 70/7.5.2019 A) ¨Supports of universities and Technological Institutes, access to highest education, pilot schools, State General Archives and other provisions¨.
The department supports the curriculum of the former Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, up to the graduation of its students.
Since 1985, approximately 1500 students have graduated most of who have been employed in public research centers, fish farm and fish processing companies, fisheries research institutes and academic institutions, fisheries cooperative associations and as freelancers.
The Department is dealing with the primary productivity from terrestrial and aquatic animals, fisheries and aquaculture and its primary mission is accomplished through two major pillars of targets; scientific research and education. To achieve the above objectives, a special 5-year study program (SP) was designed which leads to the award of the title of Integrated Master Level 6 to its graduates.
The Department also supports exchange opportunities through ERASMUS internships and leads to postgraduate programs for Master and PhD.
