Studies in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture last five academic years, i.e., 10 semesters.
The educational work of each academic year begins on the 1st of September and ends on the 31st of August of the following year.
The educational work in each academic year is structured in winter and spring semesters, each of which includes at least thirteen full weeks for teaching and laboratory training.
Of the ten total semesters, five (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th) are conducted during October-January and the rest (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th) during mid-February- May.
The first 9 semesters are available for courses, while the 10th semester is dedicated to the elaboration of the dissertation, which is mandatory for all students. Apart the obligatory courses, compulsory ones are existed for which the student chooses according to his interests. The re-registration of students and the registration of courses in each semester is mandatory.
For most courses three hours of theoretical instruction and two hours of laboratory training or tutoring per week are usually provided. Attendance on laboratory training and tutoring is mandatory for students and no more absences than 1/5 of their planned number are allowed.
In the first semesters the student receives the basic knowledge on animals and animal production and up to 5th semester, the PS consists only by compulsory courses. Elective courses are available in the 6th semester and up to the 9th semester, whereas the 10th semester is dedicated to the under-graduate dissertation. Each course corresponds to a number of credits (ECTS) the total of which in each semester should be exactly 30.
