Doctoral studies aim at the production of high quality up-to-date scientific research as well as at the formation of scientists able to contribute to scientific progress through research development. The graduates of doctoral programs are destined to boost the research, entrepreneurial and educational communities at home and abroad. Furthermore, the doctoral programs are a source of academic prestige and international recognition for the Department and the University as a whole, as they contribute towards the qualitative and quantitative upgrading of research production on Agriculture industry (fisheries and aquaculture ).
Basic requirements for candidates wishing to apply for a Ph.d degree include:
- α) Undergraduate Degree from a Greek University or an equivalent recognized University or Institute from abroad.
- b) Postgraduate Degree, as above; alternatively, an integrated Degree at the postgraduate level, as prescribed by law (4485/2017, art.46).

The candidates that are accepted exceptionally, however, are required to complete successfully a number of PSP course units which are determined by the General Assembly as per article 4.2 of the Doctoral Studies Regulation. Also, for those candidates who hold no Postgraduate Diploma (PD) or do hold a PD in other than the proposed Doctoral course’s field, the duration of study must be at least 4 years including the time needed for the additional postgraduate studies.
The duration of the doctoral course cannot be less than three (3) calendar years, beginning at the appointment of the three-academic stuff consulting committee.
